Obituary

Mary Jane Kubik, 100, died Oct. 25, 2007, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers.

She was born June 25, 1907, in Grant County, Okla., the daughter of William Stewart and Nora Ann Nelson Hawk. She graduated in 1926, from Caldwell High School. A longtime resident of Caldwell, she and her husband Ted, moved to Hutchinson in 1990. Mary retired in 1972, as the Caldwell District Cashier for Western Light and Telephone Co.

She belonged to First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell, and the Business and Professional Women's Association.

On Aug. 15, 1928, she married Ted Kubik in Caldwell. He died Oct. 16, 1992.

Survivors include: a son, Alan, San Diego; a daughter, Shirley Deterding, Hutchinson; a brother, Harry Howard Hawk, East Wenatchee, Wash.; two granddaughters, Jane Deterding and husband Brent Lehner, Wichita, and Amy Keeny and husband Mark, Kingman; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Keeny, Kingman; a step-great-grandchildren, Katy and John Lehner, Wichita; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; three brothers; two sisters; a son-in-law, Max Deterding; and two great-grandsons; Michael J. and Jackson Paul Keeny.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Caldwell Cemetery, with the Rev. Howard West presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Cremation was selected.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers, in care of the funeral home.
