Obituary

Mary Ann Madden, 87, died July 19, 2008, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.

She was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Ellinwood, the daughter of Paul John and Mary Helfrich Schartz. She graduated in 1939, from Ellinwood High School. She had lived in Hutchinson since 1998, moving from the Ellinwood/Great Bend Community. She was a homemaker.

She belonged to the Church of the Holy Cross, Altar Societies at Holy Cross, Hutchinson, and St. Joseph, Ellinwood, and the Ft. Zarah EHU, Great Bend.

On Aug. 18, 1941, she married Carl Madden in Ellinwood. He died Feb. 28, 2003. Their surviving children are: Kent Madden and John Madden, both of Hutchinson, Paul Madden, Topeka, and Jane Fuhr, McPherson; a sister, Cassilda Moran, Claflin; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Schartz, whose funeral is Tuesday in Claflin.

Parish rosary will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the church, with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Lakin Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood, with Father Charles Mazouch presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
