Mary Ann Mattison, 84, formerly of Hutchinson, went to be with the Lord, Aug. 4, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., following her brave battle with lung cancer. She was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Hutchinson, to Ernest S. and Clara A. (Barton) Benson.
Mary Ann graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1950. She went on to successful careers in banking and real estate. Mary Ann was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HP, American Women Bankers Association, and Crossroads Christian Church.
Mary Ann was married to the father of her children, MCPO Robert Keffer, for 25 years. She was then married to Lt. Colonel Jack Comes for 10 years until his death in 1997. On Aug. 28, 2002, she was married to Jack E. Mattison, in Hutchinson, until his death Feb. 23, 2015. Mary Ann is survived by: son, Michael Keffer and wife Jane of Springfield, Mo.; daughter, Julie Pittman and husband Mark of Sapulpa, Okla.; grandson, Adam Pittman of Sapulpa, Okla.; Jack Mattison's children, Brett Mattison and wife Colette, Cindy Freeman and husband Alan, all of Hutchinson; step grandchildren, Casey Freeman, Christopher Mattison and wife Tyleigh, Jake Mattison and wife Katie, Kimberly Fager; six step great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Bob Peel Sr. of Hutchinson. She is also survived by her many beloved nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart and her life. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her sisters, Margaret Bowles, Esther Lou Peel; ex-husband, Robert Keffer; and a stepson, James T. Mattison.
Mary Ann made a difference in this world with her fun, generous and loving spirit. She had a gift of making those around her know they were loved and special. Even those caring for her during her illness were touched by her radiant smile and kind ways. She was very creative and was an accomplished and avid knitter and also made award-winning porcelain dolls. Nearing the end of her life and knowing that she had "run her race well," she expressed that she was ready for her homecoming with the Lord, and looked forward to a reunion and celebration with her departed family and friends. Her children were with her at her passing. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Wayne Pittman of Crossroads Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
