NICKERSON - Mary Marie McKee went to be with her Lord, Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Hutchinson, the daughter of John C. and Eleanor Lyon Brown.
She was a graduate of Hutchinson High School, Sterling College and Emporia State University, a member of Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of Phi Gamma Mu, had been a elementary school teacher at Nickerson Elementary for 23 years, retiring in 1991, a member of Nickerson Retired Teachers, Delta Cappa Gamma and active 4-H leader including being a national delegate at 4-H Club congress. Mary had been a former member of Cameo Club, Women of the Moose, #1371 and Order of Eastern Star.
On Feb. 14, 1943, she married Gene McKee in Hutchinson. He survives. Other survivors and their spouses include: a son, Dennis and Lila of Hutchinson; two daughters, Catherine Voss and Sharon Engelland, both of South Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Debbie Glass, John and Wynnetta Glass, Bodie McKee, Mary and Andrew Johnson; and four great-granddaughters, Kayci, Lynsi, Chelcee and Madyson. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Clifford Voss.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Elliott Chapel, with Reverend Ron Kite officiating. Her register book will be available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Reno County or Nickerson Retired Teachers, in care of the mortuary.
