Mary Elizabeth "Mickie" Reinolds, 86, died March 25, 2010. She fought a long and hard battle with lung cancer.
She was born April 17, 1923, to Levi and Maude Shaffer Draucker in DuBois, Pa.
Raised in Luthersburg, Pa., she entered the U.S. Army where she served as a military policewoman. During her service she met and married Bud Leffel Sr., also a military policeman in the U.S. Army. They moved to Hutchinson shortly after leaving the service.
Mickie spent most of her life caring for the elderly as an LPN.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Gary Leffel, and daughter, Kathy Almanza; her parents; brother, John Draucker; and sister, Naomi Hertzfield.
She is survived by her son, Buddy Leffel and his wife, Kathy, Oklahoma City, Okla. She also leaves two granddaughters, Rachel Boccio, Tampa, Fla., and Mickelle Simmons, Hutchinson, Ks.; four grandsons, David Leffel, Tampa. Fla., Ron and Garry Leffel, Grove, Okla., and John Leffel, Branson, Mo. Her great-granddaughter Katrina Hopkins, and husband, Sean, and baby Marionnah devoted much time and love caring for Mickie before and during her long illness.
Mickie leaves behind her dearest and best friend of 50-plus years, Norma Shefflebein, of Garden City. Norma was at Mickie's side the day before her death.
She is also survived by the love of her life, "Baby Girl," her precious cat. Mickie had a tremendous love for cats and dogs and any animal. She cared for, fed and took in any stray or homeless animal that passed her way.
She will be missed by numerous other great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of Mickie's life will be held Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 2 p.m. at New Life Church of The Nazarene, 200 E. Campbell, Hutchinson. Cremation has taken place.
