Obituary

Mary Nisly, 91, of South Hutchinson, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 31, 1926, in rural Hutchinson, to Daniel and Barbara (Helmuth) Yoder.

Mary was a devoted farmer's wife, excellent homemaker, and certified nurse's aide at Mennonite Friendship Communities for almost 30 years. She was very passionate about her job, and trained numerous individuals to become certified nurse's aides. Mary always had an interest in missions and sharing the word of Jesus. She and Raymond volunteered for over 25 years with Rosedale Mennonite Missions. Most notable was when they served for three years in Boykin, Alabama, in 1980. There, they served the African-American community. They also helped start Plainview Mennonite Church and Maranatha Mennonite Church. Mary was a member of Maranatha Mennonite Church for 40 years.

On November 7, 1948, she married Raymond Nisly at Plainview Mennonite Church. Their marriage was the second marriage at the church. They shared almost 69 years of marriage.  Mary is survived by: husband, Raymond of South Hutchinson; children, Janice Lee of Hutchinson, Nevin Nisly (Joann) of Partridge, Geneva Nisly of Hutchinson, Jason Nisly of Greeley, Colorado; siblings, Fannie Nisly (Melvin), Rebecca Miller, Levi Yoder (Colleen), Alfred Yoder (Linda), Paul Yoder (Edith); 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Bertha Helmuth; brother, Vernon Yoder; son-in-law, Nelson Lee; and daughters-in-law, Alta Nisly and Linda Nisly.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m Friday, October 20, 2017, at Maranatha Mennonite Church, 3115 Blanchard SW, Hutchinson, with Pastors Paul Nisly, Chad Eigsti, and Alfred Yoder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mennonite Friendship Communities, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
