Obituary

Mary A. Sergeant, 94, died Sept. 14, 2007, at Golden Plains Health Care Center.

She was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Fredonia, the daughter of Joseph P. and Sarah Jane Cox Bentley. A resident of Hutchinson since 1975, she retired as chief operator from AT&T, Stafford, after 29 years. She had also worked at the Duetch Ammunition Factory, California, during World War II.

She belonged to the Baptist Faith, and was a former member of the PILOT Club, and BPOE.

On July 15, 1929, she married Robert T. Sergeant in Newkirk, Okla. He died in 1945.

Survivors include: a son, Ray, Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert L.; four brothers, Leo, John, Joseph and Jess; a sister, Viola Appleton; and a grandson.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with the Rev. William J. Green, Sr., presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday.
