Mary Belle Shea, 68, died November 13, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born June 16, 1945, the daughter of Reuben and Christine (Haas) Bartholomew Stratton.
On June 18, 1960, she married Thomas M. Shea in Hutchinson. He died August 31, 1993.
Survivors include: children, Dorothy Shea Flory (Mike) of Shawnee, KS, Mary "Tina" Shea (Bill Porter) of Wichita, KS, Lisa Shea Roberts (Brian) of Sandy, UT, formerly of Raleigh, NC, and Tommy Shea (Serena) of Hutchinson; sisters, Lou Mercer of Pueblo, CO, and Donna Bartholomew, and Dorothy Anderson, both of Hutchinson, KS; brother-in-law, Bud Stephenson of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Garcia and husband Albert, Carol Shea, all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Morgan Sage Roberts, Lil Tommy, Blaine, Kolby, and Kalie Shea; step-grandchildren, Clint, J.D., Kyle and Rusty Flory, step-great-grandchildren, Halley, Maris, Tyrus, Elizabeth, Jalin, Anna, Hallie and Quinten. She is also survived by a slew of nieces, nephews, and long-time friend, Larry Norton of Buhler.
She was preceded in death by; her husband Tommy, father, Reuben Bartholomew, mother, Christine Stratton, brother, Delbert "Jake" Bartholomew and a sister, Joanne Flora.
Mary spent her earlier years as a devoted wife and mother. During that time she enjoyed bridge club, and was active on several bowling leagues. She served as a Girl Scout leader as well as volunteering for local charities. Mary attended Hutchinson Community College. She was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church, later a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and then St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Mary was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Abilene, Kansas. She was an avid reader, wonderful cook and seamstress, who also won awards in cross-stitching at the county fair.
Mary was co-owner of Skaets Steak Shop, Hutchinson, Kansas, with her husband and sister Donna, from 1975 to 1978. After most of her kids were out of the house she started working and managed Pump Mart in Abilene, Kansas. She later returned to Hutchinson and retired as a waitress at Skaets Steak Shop.
Parish Rosary will be at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday November 19, 2013, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Nicholas Voelker. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday, with family to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
