Mary Lou Tims, 88, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson. She was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Fargo, Okla., to Alfred M. and Alice (McKenna) Phillips.
Mary Lou graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1945, and Southern Nazarene University in 1951, with a degree in education. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse near Arlington. Mary Lou later moved to Bethany, Oklahoma, where she taught in the Putnam city schools. She accepted Christ as her Savior on Dec. 10, 1935, at the age of 8. Mary Lou was a member of Bethany Church of the Nazarene.
Mary Lou married D.E. Tims Aug. 19, 1965, at First Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City, Okla. He died March 28, 2008. She is survived by: sons, Kenneth Reed (Ann) of Concord, Ohio, Roger Tims (Lorraine) of Turlock, Calif.; grandchildren, Kathy Baugher, Dana Chavarria, Curtis Metcalf, Kevin Metcalf, Caleb Tims, Kassie Tims, Sonny Tims, Patty Tims; three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Gwenevere, Emma; sisters, Margaret Clark (Richard) of White Cloud, Mich., Elsie Dunn (Don) of Rockville, Ind., Glenda Kilpatrick (Robert) of Hutchinson; brothers, Clarence Phillips of Riverside, Calif., Robert Phillips (Ellyn)of Cheyenne, Wyo. Mary Lou was preceded in death by: her parents; daughter, Dee Ann Metcalf; sisters, Baby Phillips, Belvajean Adams, Elaine Guyett; brothers, Carl, Everett, and Charles Phillips.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at Wesley Towers Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Randall Turner officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
