Obituary

Maurice Richard Hertach, 68, died Oct. 17, 2010, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

He was born May 8, 1942, in Great Bend, to Leo A. Jr. and Mary Frances Oberle Hertach.

He attended school at Sacred Heart in Larned and graduated from Larned High School in1960, and then attended Fort Hays State University.

On Dec. 28, 1961, he married Sharon Kay Hickel in Great Bend. From this union they were blessed with three children, Michael Ray, Meridith Kay and Monique Renee. Their marriage ended in divorce on Feb. 20, 1979. On Jan. 26, 1980, he married Jolinda "Jodi" Mae Riedl Wild in McPherson. From this union they were blessed with the addition of Monte Richard.

Maurice worked for Farmland Industries at its ammonia storage terminal in Conway from 1981-2000. Prior to that, he had worked for Swick Guth Co. in McPherson, Mid America Pipeline in Conway, Gulf Central Terminal-Storage in Aurora, Neb., and Dalco Underground Storage in Hutchinson. After leaving Farmland in 2000, he worked for Haven Steel until his health began to decline in August 2003. Maurice was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Jodi Hertach of the home; two sons, Michael (Ashleigh), Glenalta, Australia, and Monte (Stephanie), Hutchinson; two daughters, Meridith Hertach, Denver, Colo., and Monique Thompson (Farrell), Perrysburg, Ohio; five grandchildren, Samantha and Madison Crawford, Mary Hertach, Jordan Vincent and Krinn Stutzman; sister-in-law, Mary Hertach, Kansas City, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald E. Hertach; and granddaughter, Kylie Crawford.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Pool officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Larned Cemetery, with the Rev. Joseph Cunningham presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in care of the mortuary.
