Maurice R. Lawson, 94, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at Buhler Sunshine Home.
He was born Feb. 7, 1915, to Nat and Eva M. Hesseltine Lawson.
He was a 1932 graduate of Penalosa High School. He had attended Hutchinson Jr. College and graduated from Ft. Hays State University in 1939. He was farmer and stockman in the Penalosa Community.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Phi Delta Chi at Ft. Hays State University. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II with 220th Malaria Survey Detachment.
On June 17, 1940, he married Bernice M. Gunn in Hutchinson. She died Nov. 7, 2007.
Survivors include: two daughters, Sandra L. Messinger, Abilene and Connie Marie, Hutchinson; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Della Glaze Lawson.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, in Lerado Cemetery, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell presiding. His casket will remain closed. Friends may sign his register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Military honors will be conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
