Maurice D. "Morrie" Long, 82, died Oct. 30, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital's intensive care unit.
He was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Wichita, the son of Carl Clifton and Margaret M. Jones Long. In 1941 he graduated from North High School, Wichita, and attended Wichita State University. A resident of Hutchinson since 1974, formerly of St. John, he was retired district manager for Waddell and Reed, Stafford County farmer, former regional manager and insurance adjuster for Western Adjustment and Inspection Co. and was St. John District Hospital administrator.
He belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, Stafford County 4-H and Extension Unit, Stafford County Potato Growers Assoc., St. John District Hospital board member, St. John United Methodist Church council and youth leader, USD 350 school board member, charter member of Paganica Country Club (now Highlands Golf and Supper Club) and was Essential Tremor national spokesperson, a member of Phi Upsilon Sigma Fraternity. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy Air Corps.
He enjoyed playing bridge, hunting, computers and golfing.
On Dec. 12, 1947, he married Norma Bee Neill in Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gerald, St. John, and Thomas D. and wife, Nita, Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Trudie K. Blender and husband, Howard, Chase County; grandchildren, Raymond and wife, Angie, Suzette VanDoren and husband, Kyle, all of St. John; Carissa Hearn and husband, Tyler, Stafford; Shannon Blocker and husband, James, Garnett; Callie Thomsen and husband, Jeremy, Lamont; Corinne Patterson and husband, Tom; Chase County; Ryan and wife, Charity, and Erica, all of Omaha, Neb.; great grandchildren, Madison, Triston and Brooke, all of St. Johns, and Madilyn Hearn, Stafford.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Huff.
Funeral will be 11 a.m Saturday at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Bones Nay officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the Mortuary. Cremation has taken place. Military honors will be conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers emorials may be sent to St. John United Methodist Church, Hutchinson Area Cancer Support Services or International Essential Tremor Foundation, in care of the mortuary.
