Obituary

Max C. Harbacek, 74, died December 14, 2008, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.

He was born November 15, 1934, in Hutchinson, the son of John and Judith Marie "Edith" Socha Harbacek, Sr.

Max graduated from Hutchinson High School, received his Associate Degree from Hutchinson Community College, attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence, and received a B.S. from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg.

A lifetime resident of Hutchinson, he served as general foreman at Morton Salt, Hartman Manufacturing, as well as Eaton-Cessna for 30-plus years, retiring in 1997.

He belonged to American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, Loyal Order of The Moose No. 982, AMBUCS, V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post No. 1361, and Highlands Golf and Supper Club. He was an avid golfer, outdoorsman and baseball player.

On March 4, 1960, he married Bonnie Lee Purvis in Hutchinson. Her death occurred September 29, 1990. On December 7, 1977, he married Ann. R. Tobias Wingfield in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Eric Harbacek (Deanna), Hutchinson; a daughter, Katrina Drummond (Larry), Hutchinson; three stepsons, Mark Wingfield, Mesa, Ariz., Brad Wingfield, Oro Valley, Ariz., and Tim Wingfield, Hutchinson; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Max Brian Harbacek; his parents, and a brother, John, Jr.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Michael P. Milliken presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family to receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., all at Elliott Mortuary. Interment will be in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
