Maxine L. McMurray, 92, died May 20, 2011, at her home. She was born Nov. 30, 1918, in Windom, Kan., the daughter of Daniel P. and Alma L. Swalander Smyres.
She was a Hutchinson resident since 1935, formerly of Dodge City, Minneola and Canton. She worked for F.W. Woolworth's for several years where she met and married her husband, Gerald R. McMurray. After his return from three and a half years overseas in the Army, he went into the accounting business.
Maxine was the owner of McMurray Accounting after her husband's death in 1982. She was a member of First Christian Church since 1935, and a 1935 Hutchinson High School graduate. She was a member of the Altrusa Club since 1977, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, and Public Accounting Association of Kan. She is survived by: daughters, Joyce Harris of Hutchinson and Debra Fuller and husband Glenn of Ft. Payne, Ala.; grandchildren, Pam Nicholas and husband Craig of Hutchinson, Loren Harris of Burrton, and Lonnie Harris and wife Becky of Inman; six great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Parker of Hutchinson; step-sister, Alice Johnson of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Betty Luman and Gladys Luman of Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Juanita, three step-brothers, and three step-sisters.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Jim Bell presiding. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with family to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
