Obituary

Maxine "Maxie" Alice Forby Morgan passed away May 7, 2009, at Hospice House in Hutchinson.

She was born June 24, 1915, to Charles and Lillian Forby in Hutchinson.

She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1933, and attended Hutchinson Community College.

Maxine was the Treasurer of Valley Federal Savings and Loan for 31 years and retired from there in 1972. During the years, she has been a member of the Women's Civic Center, WOW Red Hatters, Hutchinson Music Club, GFWC Second Century Club, American Legion Auxiliary, 8 and 40 of the American Legion, Federal Employees Retirement Association, Business and Professional Women, and the Soroptimist. Maxie is also a 25-year volunteer at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center. She has belonged to First United Methodist Church for years and was a member of the Wesley Weds Sunday School Class, and was Vice President of Circle Four.

She married Donald I.B. Morgan on Nov. 25, 1934, in Topeka. Don passed away on May 7, 1980. Don and Maxine spent many happy times at the Morgan family cabin in Allenspark, Colo. She even played Honky Tonk piano for the Allenspark Civic Theatre group for many years, and was a member of Allenspark Area Club and Hilltop Guild.

Survivors include: son, Jac, Louisville, Colo.; daughter, Zenitha Hund and husband Mike, Estes Park, Colo.; two granddaughters, Tonya Ziegler and husband Joel, and Shelley Shehan and husband Darin; great-grandson, Morgan Shehan; niece, Marty Schlossstien and husband Steve; great-niece and nephew, Peter and Claire Schlossstien; and her second family, Sondra and Frank Sloyer.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Black, and a nephew, Charles Black.

You may visit Maxine at Elliott Mortuary on Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, First and Walnut, with the Reverend Mark Conard officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.

Memorials may be sent to Hilltop Guild Scholarship Fund, or the Kansas Cosmosphere, both in care of the mortuary.
