May Pauline Walker, 100 years and eight months, passed away early Thursday, the 13th of April 2006, at her home, where she had lived for 30 years.
She was born the seventh child of Japheth P. and Kizzie Ann Clark Rickman on the 17th of August, 1905, in Valley Center. When she was a teenager the family moved into a home her father had built in Newton. She attended school in Newton and later operated a beatuy salon with her sister, Lucy, prior to her marriage to Edward W. Walker, Aug. 5, 1937. In 1945, she moved to a small farm south of Nickerson reseiding there until Eddie's passing May 28, 1974.
She was a very active and faithful member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Survivors include: a son, Edward W. Jr., Hutchinson ; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Theodore and Lawrence Richman; and four sisters, Bertha Rickman, Fontella Anderson, Lucy Offut and Helen Work.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Cornelius N. Austin, Jr., presiding. Following cremation, inurnment will be in Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, Nickerson, at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
