Maynard A. Bontrager, 74, of South Hutchinson, died Aug. 31, 2010, at Byers, Colo., as a result of a tractor-trailer accident.

He was born Dec. 26, 1935, at Hutchinson, the son of Andrew A. and Nora Yutzy Bontrager.

He attended Haven schools and graduated from Central Christian High School in 1954. He was owner and operator of his own tractor-trailer and over the past 50 years drove for Crupper Transport, S&C Transport, RG Jones Trucking, KTC Inc., DJ Lee, and D&A Trucking.
He was a member of the former Yoder Mennonite Church.

On Aug. 24, 1958, he married Fannie Mae Kaufman at Yoder. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Lyle Bontrager and wife Tami, and Terry Bontrager and wife Angela, all of Wichita; daughters, Pat Martin and husband Gary, Stuarts Draft, Va., Connie Stutzman and husband Darrell, Hutchinson, and Gloria Bontrager, South Hutchinson; brothers, Kenneth Bontrager and Marion Bontrager, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Wesley Bontrager, Buhler, and Clay Bontrager, Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Weaver, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; his step-mother, Elisabeth Bontrager, South Hutchinson; grandchildren, Abbie, Luke, Libby, and Blake Bontrager, Andrew Bontrager, Kari, Karla, and Katie Martin, Tyler, Taylor, and Trenton Stutzman. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, at the Journey Activities Center at Yoder. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery at the church. The family will greet friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Journey Fellowship Hall at Yoder. The facility is located 1 mile north of Yoder on Yoder Road. A register book can be signed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
