Obituary

Melba M. Roberts, 88, died Oct. 23, 2011, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born June 2, 1923, in Hoisington, the daughter of Frank and Minnie Turner Bean. Melba graduated from St. John High School in 1942 and Wesley Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita in 1945. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Hutchinson. Melba was a registered nurse her entire career of 30 years at Grace Hospital, retiring when the hospital closed and became part of Hutchinson Hospital.
She married Wayne L. Roberts December 2, 1945, in Hutchinson. He died March 28, 1996. Survivors include: two sons, Michael D. Roberts and wife, Anne, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Randle K. Roberts, Athens, Georgia; a daughter, Sally B. Roberts, New Orleans, La.; brothers, Jack Bean, Santa Clara, Calif., and Bob Bean, Morland, Kan.; a sister, Shirley Prescott, Houston, Texas; and a granddaughter, Sarah Roberts, New Orleans, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ann Roberts, in 1956; a brother, Frank Bean; and sisters, Maxine Bean, Lavone Hardy, Marcella Savoy, and Juanita Roberts.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today (Monday) at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, sent in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N.
