Melvin G. Hooker, 62, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 20, 2016, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born Nov. 26, 1953, in Hutchinson, the son of George and Glenda (Gaston) Hooker.
Melvin graduated from Hutchinson High School and then served his country in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1978. He worked at AGCO Corporation in Hesston for many years. Melvin was a member of CrossPoint Church. He loved his grandchildren, gardening and enjoyed the Bible-themed shows in Branson. Melvin's passion for God's Word led him to pursue a degree from Liberty Home Bible Institute in 1981.
On Dec. 28, 1974, he married Kimberly Ann Dority in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: daughters, Sharon Marker (Brent), Serena Shea (Tommy); son, Nathan Hooker (Holly); sisters, Velma Carlson (Mark), Karen Atkinson (Kent); brother, Steven Hooker (Vicki); nine grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Carolyn Dority, all of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Harvey Dority.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Paul Thurston officiating. Burial, with U. S. Navy Honors, will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.
