Melvin D. Norris, 49, died May 21, 2006, at Hospice House.
He was born Aug. 28, 1956, in Queens, N.Y., the son of Joe and Mae Ellen Johnson Norris. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, Queens, N.Y., and attended Hutchinson Community College. A Hutchinson resident for 30 years, he was the owner and operator of Norris Truck Wash, Hutchinson.
He belonged to McGee Chapel Foundation of Life Ministries, and was a M.A.Y.B. coach for 11 years.
On Nov. 28, 1981, he married Lori L. Watts in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Jamaal G., Leland T., Houston A., and Elijah B., all of the home; three daughters, Amy R., Angela M., and Asia L. Norris, all of the home; his mother, Mae Ellen Johnson, Queens, N.Y.; two brothers, James, New Jersey, and Jessie, Kew Gardens, N.Y.; three sisters, Mary Williams, Bronx, N.Y., Odessa Norris, Jamaica, N.Y., and Helena Norris, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a grandson, Kahlil A. Norris, Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe; a brother, Arthur L. Norris; and a sister, Deljean V. Norris.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Melvin Watson presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home, with the family present from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
