Melvin Harold Woods, 86, died May 25, 2009 at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson. He was born June 25, 1922 in Nickerson to Oliver Otto and Nancy Jane Still Woods.

He served in the United States Navy from 1942-1945. He was a retired Engine Operator for Carey Salt and a member of the United Mine Workers.

On Sept. 4, 1943, he married Mabel Julia Toten in Gulfport, Mississippi. She died October 21, 1995.

Survivors include, grandson John Joseph Woods, Glenaire, MO; granddaughter Koloma Katherine Woods and husband Richard Marcis, South Lyon, MI; daughter-in-law Sue Woods, Liberty, MO; and many good friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2009 at Elliott Chapel with Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Friends may call from 1-9 Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or American Heart Association in care of the mortuary.
