Merla L. Cunday, 86, died Feb. 6, 2016, at Via Christi on St. Francis, Wichita. She was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Nickerson, the daughter of Murra and Sarah Anna (Mummey) Gregg.

Merla graduated from Nickerson High School in 1947. She was the ultimate caregiver and homemaker. She would always put the needs of others before her own. Merla had a humorous side and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She looked forward each year to work at the Kansas State Fair in the Food Department and the Encampment Building. Merla was a member of the Nickerson United Methodist Church. She was also an active member of Idona Club, EHU, Boat Club, SS Club, CWF, and a charter member of American Legion.

On Aug. 17, 1947, she married Clive N. Cunday at her family home in Nickerson. He died Dec. 12, 2011. Merla is survived by: daughter, Grace Clark and husband Richard of Bella Vista, Ark.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; special cousin, Delores "Dee" Mowrey; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; two sisters; a daughter, Lynda; and son, Robert Cunday.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Nickerson United Methodist Church, 8200 N. Riverton Road, with the Rev. Melissa Naylor officiating. A private family inurnment will take place. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at Elliott Mortuary.
