Obituary

Merle H. England, 87, died May 29, 2008, at his home, Hutchinson.

He was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Burrton, the son of Henry Lee and Mary Lorena Haddock England. He graduated in 1939, from Hutchinson High School. A resident of Hutchinson, he was a sales representative for beverage companies.

He belonged to the First Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Bob Campbell Post No. 1361, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, and AmVets Post No. 11, all at Hutchinson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Staff Sergeant when he was discharged.

On June 27, 1943, he married Juanita Griffith in Tempe, Ariz. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Dan, Emporia, and Robert, Hutchinson; a daughter, Merlene Shuster, Wichita; four grandchildren, Stacy Robins, Shawnee, Brett Shuster, Lawrence, Clay England, Lawrence, and Libby England, Emporia; and two great-grandsons, Lucas Robins and Brady Robins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert England.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastor John Warring presiding, and military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Fort Riley. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday June 1, 2008.
