Obituary

Merlin A. "Sonny" Dickinson, 78, died Nov. 18, 2006, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.

He was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Hartville, Mo., the son of Alfred Benjamin and Ruth Ada Schull Dickinson. In 1946, he graduated from Greenfield High School, Greenfield, Ind. In 1947, he graduated from junior college in Riverside, Calif., and Wichita State University in 1963. A resident of Hutchinson since 1993, formerly of Wichita, he worked in Parts Inventory Control for Cessna Aircraft.

He belonged to First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Begor in underwater demolition.

On March 21, 1977, he married Judy Ann Powell in Belle Plaine. She survives.

Other survivors include: two stepsons, Russell Cantrell and wife, Louise, Wichita; and Don Hoagland and wife, Renee, Wichita; a stepdaughter, Lana Moler and husband, Robert, Hutchinson; eight stepgrandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Southern Baptist Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Ray Kempel officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Military graveside services conducted by U.S. Navy Honor Guard.

Memorial may be sent to Interfaith Housing Services Inc. or First Southern Baptist Church Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.
