Michael 'Mike' Alonzo, 91, of Hutchinson, died February 22, 2019, at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born May 8, 1927, in Hutchinson, to Dario and Teofila (Castor) Alonzo.
Mike graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army for 26 years, retiring April 30, 1976, as a Sergeant Major. After retirement from the United States Army, Mike worked as general contractor. Mike was a huge KU fan, enjoyed golfing, and to his family, was known as a workaholic. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church.
On January 19, 1966, he married Kyoung Chun in Seoul, Korea. Mike and Kyoung met while he was serving in the United States Army during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. They shared 53 years of marriage.
Mike is survived by: wife, Kyoung of Hutchinson; daughter, Jackie Suiter and husband Dale of Divide, CO; grandchildren, Benjamin Appel of Lawrence, Samantha Appel of Columbus, OH, Brennan Stewart of Kansas City, MO, Meghan Stewart of Wichita, Mitchell Stewart, Michael Stewart, both of Hutchinson; brothers, Joe, Tony; and sister, Minnie.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughter, Eufemia Steierl; brothers, Don, John, James, Richard, Fred Sr; and sisters, Jay Alonzo and Marina Alonzo Davis.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Larry Wedel officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Reno County or the American Lung Association, in care of Elliott Mortuary 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
