Michael J. "Mike" Armstrong, 55, died peacefully at his home, as a result of liver cancer, Oct. 6, 2007, surrounded by family, he left this earth in time to make his heavenly tee time.
He was born Oct. 19, 1951, in Pittsburg, the son of Robert and Virginia Clouse Armstrong. He graduated in 1969 from Trinity High School, and attended Hutchinson Community College, Pittsburg State and Emporia State universities. Since 1982, he was the owner of Roy's Hickory Pit BBQ.
He belonged to the Church of the Holy Cross. He was a loyal Yankees fan. He enjoyed the game of golf and the friendships formed because of it.
On June 21, 1987, he married his wife Anne. She survives.
Other survivors include: his children, Michael D., Mesa, Ariz., Ryan Collum and wife, Jenny, Hutchinson, and Kelly Collum, Lawrence; his mother, Virginia Hopman, Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, Cindy Swanson, Naperville, Ill., and Kimberly Ulasewich, The Woodlands, Texas; two uncles; three aunts; two nephews; three nieces; numerous grand-nephews, nieces, and cousins; two grandsons, Sage and Trenton Collum, Hutchinson; many friends, and his beloved bulldog Salvatore "Sal."
He was preceded in death by his father.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Holy Cross, with Father Ned J. Blick presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
