DERBY - Michael "Mike" Kretzer, 61, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. He was born June 25, 1952, in Hutchinson, the son of Donald and Evelyn Luna Kretzer.
He was a 1972 graduate of Nickerson High School, a graduate of Hutchinson Community College and the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science and Master's degree in education. Mike was a member and had served on various committees for the board of First Presbyterian Church, Derby, and a board member of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association. He was owner of Sudbury Transportation.
On Dec. 22, 1973, he married Mary Jane Showalter in South Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: their daughters and spouses, Julie and Ryan Wagner of Derby, Katie and Chad Boyer of Keller, Texas; a brother, Gary and Rhonda; a sister, Linda Schwartz and mother-in-law, Mary Lou Showalter, all of Hutchinson; four grandchildren, Koby and Ellie Stewart and Jack and Abby Wagner. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Eldon Leigh Showalter; and brother-in-law, Leland Schwartz.
Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 324 N. Baltimore, Derby, Kan., with Pastor Ben Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
