Obituary

Michael J. Maloney, 63, died Nov. 19, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Hutchinson, the son of John "Jack" and Nathalie McCaffery Maloney. Michael graduated from Haven High School in 1964 and attended the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

An avid KU basketball fan, he often said "Allen Fieldhouse was the only place on the campus where I had perfect attendance." He served with the Kansas Air National Guard as a staff sergeant from 1968 to 1974. A farmer and rancher, he lived on the home place which was homesteaded by his great-great-grandfather. Michael also worked as a realtor with McNaughten Realty.

Survivors include: brother, Patrick Maloney and wife Carole, Kingman; sister, Maureen Morrison and husband Roger, Salina; nephews, Michael Maloney and wife Angie, Kingman, Brian Maloney and wife Melissa, Germantown, M.d., Aaron Morrison, Salina; nieces, Amy Dobbins and husband Mark, Olathe, Molly Snyder and husband Lance and Megan Grossman and husband Michael, all of Leawood; step-nephew, Luke Nagel and wife Stacey, Wichita; step-niece, Linda Nagel, Misson; and 13 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Father James Weldon presiding. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to service time Sunday at the mortuary. Private family burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hutchinson Community Foundation, in care of the mortuary.
