Michael Lloyd “Mike” Petering, 76, died July 19, 2026, at Sterling Village. He was born April 1, 1950, in Hutchinson, to James Lloyd and V. Ruth (Chambers) Petering.

Mike graduated from Hutchinson High School and Hutchinson Community College. He served in the United States Army. Mike was the owner and operator of Creative Crew, his landscaping business, for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing at Kanapolis Lake, drawing, and watching Old Westerns. Most of all, Mike cherished his time spent with his family. He was a Christian.

Mike is survived by: his daughter, Bernadette (Christopher) Hiebert; grandsons, Ethan and Ryan Hiebert, all of Hutchinson; sister, Donelle Conner; brother, Jim Petering; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Geri Decker; brothers-in-law, Joe Decker and Chuck Conner; nephews, Michael Decker and Patrick Neufeld; as well as former wife, Nelda Petering.

Memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may sign his book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday until the day of the service at Elliott Mortuary. In honor of Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
