Obituary

Michelle Sue Wolf was born Michelle Bruce on November 15, 1948, to Robert and Margaret (Thompson) Bruce in Hutchinson and died at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center May 24.
Michelle was the 6th of 9 children, two of whom have preceded her in death, Rosemary Kenney and James Bruce. Surviving brothers and sisters are Margaret Daniel of San Diego, CA., Joseph Bruce of Annapolis, MD., Martha Blick of Pocatello, ID., Rebecca Rich of Virginia Beach, VA., Christine Wolf of Medora, KS., and Jerome Bruce of Burrton, KS. Also, Michelle shared a part of her childhood with two foster siblings, Michael Brown of Haven, and Leann Tummons of Turon.

Michelle married Gail Wolf in Hutchinson on December 20, 1969. They remained by each other's side in marriage for nearly 43 years. He survives. They had three children; Gaylene Celeste Wolf was stillborn December 29, 1970. Shane Daniel Wolf was born February 7, 1972. He and his life partner, Shawn Ranspot survive. Amy Deann Berry was born May 19, 1975. She and her husband, Kenneth, also survive. Amy and Kenneth have two children, Rachel Michelle Berry and Brandon Shawn Berry. Michelle's grandchildren were her greatest source of joy.

Michelle drove a special needs school bus for Buhler USD 313 school district for many years, during which time she volunteered for the Kansas Special Olympics. She then found her passion for advocating on behalf of adults with various disabilities while working as an Independent Living Specialist at Prairie Independent Living Resource Center in Hutchinson. For a short time, Michelle worked in customer service at Lowe's. Michelle retired in 2011.

Michelle was known for her interest in looking after anyone who she perceived to be in need of support. Always promoting equality among all people, Michelle was gifted with an innate ability to bring comfort to others during difficult times.

Michelle had an ability to stretch a dollar further than most people and never, never took for granted having anything.

Her family is very saddened by the loss of their wife, mother, grandmother and sister, and invite all who knew her or were touched by her life to join them at Elliott's Mortuary for an informal celebration of her life.

Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Chaplain Art Maddock presiding. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
