Milburn "Mel" J. Chestnut, 87, died August 20, 2010 at Hospice House. He was born September 5, 1922 in Billings, Okla to James T. and Cora Mable Lucas Chestnut.

A resident of Hutchinson since 1950, coming from Stafford, Mel was in the maintenance department at J & J Drainage. He retired in 1986. Mel was a member of the Antique Car Club and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

He married Mildred L. Bartlett on February 23, 1943 in Stafford. She died Jan. 11, 1998.

He married Annabelle Schultz on June 9, 2001. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Narron and husband Jim, Hutchinson; brother, Clarence Chestnut, Great Bend; three grandchildren, Gary Narron, Stacie Wilson and Melissa Aparicio; 7 great grandchildren.

Mel was preceded in death by his first wife and a sister, Erlene Henderson.

Funeral will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Proffitt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
