Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Maxine Blackwelder, 83, died Jan. 21, 2006, at her home, Hutchinson.

She was born Jan. 26, 1922, in Isabel, the daughter of Earl D. and Mary Gert-rude Blakely Blackwelder. In 1929, she moved with her family to Hooker, Okla., where she graduated from Hooker High School in 1940. She attended Panhandle A&M College, Goodwell, Okla., and graduated from Salt City Business College, Hutchinson. She was a professional Business Administrator for Polumbus Engineering, first as executive secretary in Hutchinson, and then was an administrative office manager in Tulsa, Okla., retiring to Hutchinson in 1981.

She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, was a volunteer with Horizons Mental Health Center and Hutchinson Kennel Club, belonged to the Reno Choral Society Inc., Polyphonic Music Club and served as treasurer for the Stone Bridge Condominium Association.

Survivors include: a nephew, Albert Blackwelder, Hooker, Okla.; a niece, Gail Phelps, Manhattan; 12 great-nephews and nieces; and 34 great-great-nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lawrence; a nephew, Bruce Blackwelder; and other family, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Nick Warner presiding. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hooker Memorial Cemetery, Hooker, Okla., with the Rev. Bart Blackwelder presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be sent to the Hutchinson Kennel Club or Trinity United Methodist Church Choir Fund, both in care of the funeral home.
