Mildred was valedictorian of the Dighton High School, class of 1945. She was a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad before marrying. After the children left home, she began her career as a bookkeeper, working in the office of a CPA and a lumber yard.

On Aug. 4, 1946, she married Dale Williams Lewis at Dighton. They moved to Hutchinson in Jan. of 1960, where Mildred was a homemaker to her family. Dale passed away Feb. 9, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

As a long-time and devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson, Mildred served as a bell choir member for many years. She was an excellent bridge player as well as a knowledgeable and passionate college basketball fan, cheering equally for KU and K-State. She was also a baseball fan and loyally followed the KC Royals. Mildred made life-long friends easily and was well-loved by the many communities she was involved in. Her family was her most important priority; she was the rock and the glue of our family.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Good Samaritan Village where Mildred and Dale lived for over 8 years. The care, consideration, and love received from so many made their final years enjoyable and comfortable.

Mildred's life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main Street, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery presiding.
