Mildred Elizabeth Thompson, 97, died Sept. 25, 2012, at her home in Andover, Kan. She was born Dec. 12, 1914, in rural Sumner County, Alton, Kan., to James Thomas and Elpha Ladore Denison Howard.
She graduated in 1932 from Alton Rural High School. Mildred married Oran "Bud" Robley Thompson on June 25, 1939, in Plainville, Kan. He died Aug. 19, 1984. She was a homemaker and a nurse aide and belonged to Arlington United Methodist Church. Survivors include: daughter, Mary Hembree and husband Don of Valley Center, Kan.; son, Carl Thompson and wife Judy of Arlington, Kan.; and daughter-in-law, Carol Thompson of Andover, Kan.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Oran Thompson Jr.; and sister, Irene Harshman.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington, Kan., with Pastor Ken Keeling presiding. Casket will remain closed. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Arlington Senior Center or Arlington United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501. A friends and family visitation will be held at Mildred's son Carl Thompson's home at 311 S. Orchard, Arlington, Kan., following the graveside service.
