Mildred Jean Gogel Wynn, died March 5, 2011, at Good Samaritan Village, Hutchinson.
Born on July 16, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of William F. and Helen Gogel.
Mildred received a B.S. degree from the University of Toledo in 1946. Majoring in Math and Physics, she was the graduating class president and member of Mortar Board. She has been a life long member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
In 1947, Mildred married David F. Wynn, they moved to Westchester County New York in 1961. They divorced in 1977. Mildred's four children are: Rachel (Jerry) Levens of San Diego, CA, Christopher Wynn of Mt. Vernon, NY, Rebecca (Jess) Crockford of Hutchinson, KS, and Matthew (Heather Buyers) Wynn of Hartsdale, NY. She has seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, two great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth H. Gogel of Atlanta, Georgia.
After raising her family, Mildred was the audio-visual librarian for the United Methodist Church Conference Center, Rye, NY and then worked at Scarsdale Village Hall. Mildred was active in Greenburgh Community affairs working on various committees and the election boards. She served as Block Captain of the Woodhill Civic Association and was a 40 year volunteer and Trustee of the Woodlands High School Scholarship Fund. Active at Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church in White Plains, NY, she was a 30-year member of the choir.
Relocating to Hutchinson in January 2010, Mildred made many friends at Waldron Place Assisted Living Facility and at Good Samaritan Village. In October 2010, she joined Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Kansas.
She loved being with her family, swimming at the Greenburgh Pool, and enjoying her deck and garden flowers while watching the birds!
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2011, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in White Plains, NY, with inurnment at Forest Cemetery, Toledo , Ohio.
