Nancy Kathleen Gay, 77, died August 5, 2022, at her home, with her loving husband, Jim, by her side. She was born June 8, 1945, in Valley Falls, KS, to Harold Francis and Catherine (Reeves) Hatfield.
Nancy graduated from Effingham High School, Effingham, KS, and received her bachelor's degree from Kansas State University. She worked for the Reno County Health Department overseeing child care licensures. Nancy enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends in her home. In addition, she was a quilter and loved making quilts for her children and grandchildren. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother and grandma who loved spending time with her family. Above all, Nancy's strong faith in God and love of her Savior was the center of her life and she impacted many around her. She was a member of Wheatland Baptist Church, McPherson where she taught ladies Bible study classes.
On March 4, 1967, she married Jimmie "Jim" Gay, in Lawrence. They shared over 55 years of marriage.
Nancy is survived by: her husband, Jim of Hutchinson; sons, Michael Gay (Valerie) of North Carolina and Timothy Gay (Karesa) of Inman; grandchildren, Emilie, Micah, Anastasia, Seth, Macey, James, and Levi; and brothers, Paul Hatfield (Carol) and Daryl Hatfield (Alice).
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Bonita Estes (Jack).
Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Wheatland Baptist Church, 1139 McKinley, McPherson, with her sons, Reverend Michael Gay and Timothy Gay officiating. Family burial will take place prior to her service in Prairie Mound Cemetery, Brookville, KS, with Pastor Terry Post officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gideons International, Siloam Missionary Homes (to benefit short-term housing for missionaries), or the Christian Law Association (to provide legal counsel at no cost for churches and Christians), in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
The family invites all who are attending to stay for a time of fellowship and light refreshments following the service.
