SOUTH. HUTCHINSON - Nellie Alta Mathis, 93, died Jan. 1, 2008, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.
She was born March, 3, 1914, in Plato, Mo., the daughter of James M. Gaddy and Etta Florence Smith. She attended school in Missouri. A longtime resident, moving to Hutchinson in1942 from Missouri, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.
On March 25, 1931, she married David William Mathis in Houston, Texas County, Mo. He died Jan. 12, 1988.
Survivors include: a son, Jack Dean Mathis and wife Marge, Wichita; a daughter, Betty Jean Gregg and husband Don, Dodge City; a brother, Wayne Gaddy, San Antonio; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: a brother, Floyd Gaddy; three sisters, Imogene Zimmerman, Lillian McDowell and Addy Gaddy McFarin; and a grandson, Ronald Dean Mathis.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mennonite Manor Chapel, South Hutchinson, with Pastor Todd Schlosser presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday, with the family receiving friends at that time, at Mennonite Manor Chapel. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
