LAWRENCE - Nelson Hobart, 83, of Lawrence, Kan., died March 16, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born June 19, 1927, in Kansas City, Mo., to Harold Nelson Hobart Sr. and Vera Gano Hobart.
He and his wife Joyce lived in Hutchinson from 1952 until 1989, then moved to Lawrence, Kan. He was a 1947 graduate of Lawrenceville Prep School in Lawrenceville, NJ, and a 1952 graduate of Princeton University. He was a retired grain man and rancher. On Oct. 23, 1952, he married Joyce Rock in Kansas City. She survives. Other survivors include: sons, John and his wife Judy of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ted and his wife Wendy of Hutchinson; daughters, Harriet Matthews and her husband Kevin of Grand Junction, Colo., Carolyn Elliott and her husband Tom of Hutchinson, and Barbara Hobart Snyder of Salina; sister, Gano Pearson of Prairie Village, Kan.; and 12 grandchildren, Jorde Matthews of Seattle, Wash., Morgan Matthews of Durango, Colo., John Hobart Jr. of Hutchinson, Brooke Morgan of Fort Worth, Texas, Jake Hobart of Fort Worth, Texas, Paige Elliott of Washington DC, Claire Elliott of Hutchinson, Lauren and Sarah Vanier of Salina, Hattie, Lily and Brynne Hobart, all of Hutchinson.
Private family services will be held. A book for Nelson's family can be signed at Elliott Mortuary, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
