Neva Fay Finney, 93, died July 8, 2011, at Hester Care Center. She was born Sept. 3, 1917, in Emporia, to Roy and Grace Stead Gatewood. Neva was a substitute teacher for the Hutchinson elementary schools. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and was part of the United Methodist Women. Neva was also a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. She attended Emporia State Teachers College.
On June 20, 1943, Neva married J. Boyd Finney in Emporia. He died July 21, 1997. Other survivors include: a brother, Wayne Gatewood and wife Joan, Emporia; sister-in-law, Justine Olson, Salina; sons, James L. Finney, Bowie, Maryland, and Don Finney, Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Nancy G. Myers and husband, Lynn, Springfield, Missouri; grandson, Matthew Finney and wife Anthena; and five great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Roger Boyd Finney, and a grandson, Aaron S. Finney.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jim Rhaesa presiding. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with the family to receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
