Obituary

Norma Deane George, 82, died Thursday, November 24, 2011.

She was born December 6, 1928, at Waynoka, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jack Simmons and Pearl Furrow Vanderslice.

She was a 1947 graduate of Waynoka, Oklahoma High School, received her Bachelors degree from Northwestern State University at Alva, Oklahoma and her Masters degree from Wichita State University. She was a member of the Hutchinson First Church of God (Anderson), Women of the Church of God, the KNEA, and the Young at Hearts. Norma Deane sang in several choirs in the Hutchinson community, and taught elementary school at Union Valley School for 23 years, retiring in 1986.

On Dec. 25, 1948, she married Dean Eugene George at Waynoka, Oklahoma. He survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Alan and his wife Shannon, Terry and his wife Susie, both of Hutchinson; one sister, Jean Jackson, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Kelly Martinez, Kris Mayberry, and Tanner George; three great-grandchildren, Alex Martinez, Kayli Mayberry, and Brooklyn Mayberry. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elroy and Clyde Vanderslice, and her sister, Wildeana Bayless.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Elliott Mortuary, with family to greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday Nov. 28. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday Nov. 29, 2011, at the Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor John Carney presiding. Cremation will take place following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Mid America Christian University in Oklahoma City, in care of the mortuary.
