GLENDALE, Ariz. - Norman R. Tucker, 89, died July 1, 2010, at the White Dove Care Home in Glendale.
He was born May 17, 1921, in Littleton, C olo., to Clayton H. and Levina Emily Bowen Tucker.
Norman opened Tucker Real Estate Agency in 1947. He worked with his two sons, Norman Gene and Gary until he retired. He also built homes in the Hutchinson area. Norman graduated from Dodge City High School and Kansas University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1942-1945. He was a first lieutenant in the Fifth Air Force in the Philippines, a combat pilot in #417 Bomb Group (a Havoc Bomber Unit, "Sky Lancers"). He flew 68 combat missions in New Guinea, the Netherlands, East Indies and the Philippines. He was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross".
Norman married Helen F. Heil on Feb. 5, 1946. She died June 12, 1997.
They were members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hutchinson. After moving to Arizona, Norman married Darlene Hahn Cline on March 20, 1998. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Norman Gene Tucker and fiance Shelley, Allen, Texas, and Gary D. and wife Cheryl Tucker, Evergreen, Colo.; four grandsons, Jeff, Lance, Aaron and Chris Tucker; seven great-granddaughters; step grandchildren, Christopher, Shereen and Stevie Cline; brother, George C. Tucker, Kansas City, KS; two sisters, Louise E. Deaver and Mary J. Haltom and husband Duane, all of Hutchinson; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucille Patterson and an infant twin granddaughter, Valerie Jean Tucker.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2010, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas B. Mendenhall officiating.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, Ariz. or to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary.
