Norval N. Kline Jr., 90, died May 28, 2007, in Phoenix.
He was born Dec. 15, 1916, in Hutchinson, the son of Norval N. Kline and Maude Lamont Kline. He was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1934, from Hutchinson Junior College in 1936, and the University of Kansas school of business in 1938.
While at the University of Kansas, he was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honorary academic fraternity. He was a retired insurance agent with the former Kline Insurance Agency. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, from 1942 to 1946.
He was a member of Park Place Christian Church, where he was a charter member, sang in the choir, was the church historian and received elder emeritus on July 5, 1998. He was a chairman of the local draft board during the Korean War, member and past president of the Hutchinson Rotary Club, YMCA board member and past president, board member and past president of the USD 308 board of education, and board member of the Hutchinson-Reno County Chamber of Commerce.
On May 29, 1948, he married Dorothy Evelyn Stalcup in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Paul Kline and wife, Sheryl, Phoenix; two daughters, Mary Kline McKellar and husband, Donald, and Julie Kline Bellah and husband, Randy, all of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Bill.
Graveside services will be private for family. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Park Place Christian Church, with the Rev. Kim Biery presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Elliott Mortuary, where the casket will be closed. Family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the church or the Hutchinson Community College Endowment Association, in care of the funeral home.
