PARTRIDGE - O.J. "Pack" Packebush, 80, died June 2, 2008, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Hooker, Okla., the son of O.R. and Sarah Jane Penniston Packebush. He graduated in 1945, from Hutchinson High School and then attended Hutchinson Community College. He was a farmer and stockman in the Partridge Community, and also had operated the Partridge Garage.
He belonged to the Partridge Community Church, where he served as church trustee, Bank of Kansas where he served on the board of directors, Partridge Co-Op, where he served as past president, and the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II.
On Dec. 30, 1950, he married Virginia Stiggins at Partridge Community Church. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Randy, South Hutchinson, and Steve and wife Kim, Wichita; two daughters, Annette Mathias and husband Randy, Partridge, and Donna Schadler and husband Melvin, Hesston; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Burns, Matt, Nic, and Sara Packebush, Steven and Tim Mathias, Emily and Ryan Schadler, and Christian and Rachel Packebush; and a great-grandson, Michael Packebush.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Cora M. DeVoe Packebush, an infant daughter, Kathy Ann, three brothers, Herman, Charles and George, and two sisters, Clara Smothermon and Ida Ansley.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Partridge Community Church, with The Rev. R. Samuel Askew presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Partridge Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
