Obituary

Olin F. Allen, 77, died Dec. 13, 2005, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born Feb. 8, 1928, in Winfield, the son of Fred Marshall and Jessie Bynum Allen. He graduated in 1946 from Winfield High School, Winfield, and in 1952, he graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, where he received his master's in 1961. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, he was a former instructor at Hutchinson High School, was a Social Science Instructor for Hutchinson Community College for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1990, and served as Department chair for a number of years.

He belonged to Northminster Presbyterian Church and volunteered for the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, Reno County Sheriff Patrol, the Hutchinson Police Department and Lincoln School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II being stationed in Japan, and serving in the Korean Conflict.

On Aug. 20, 1949, he married Donna Lee Johnson in rural Winfield. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Michael Fred and his wife, Edith, Riverside, Calif., and Walter Elmore and his wife Diana, Bozeman, Mont.; a brother, Glenn, Bella Vista, Ark.; a sister, Marjorie Wiegers, Arlington, Wash.; and three granddaughters, Megan George, and Amy and Linsey Allen.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Maple City Cemetery, with the Rev. Skip Johnson presiding. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Northminster Presbyterian Church. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The casket will remain closed.

Memorials may be sent to the Olin Allen Memorial Fund at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, in care of Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
