Olive W. Milner, 77, died Jan. 28, 2010, at Promise Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson.
She was born September 18, 1932, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Oliver and Gertrude Waggener.
She was raised in Western Springs, Ill., graduating from Lyons Township High School. She continued her education at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., receiving a degree in education. She earned her Master's Degree in elementary education from Wichita State University.
On April 11, 1953, she married Robert H. Milner in La Grange, Ill. After living in Williamsburg, Va., Galesburg, Ill., Waterloo, Iowa, and Quincy, Ill., the couple made their home in Fort Smith, Arkansas, until moving to Arkansas City, Ks., in 1969. In 2007, the couple moved to Hutchinson. Olive taught kindergarten in Fort Smith, and preschool in Arkansas City. In Arkansas City, she also held a variety of positions including middle school English teacher, elementary librarian, and was a member of the school board.
Olive was a past member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Arkansas City, and a current member of Grace Episcopal Church in Hutchinson. She was a member of the Order of the Daughters of the King and active in several church groups. She was a member of PEO Chapter BL and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Society, and past member of the PEO Chapter GH, Arkansas City Library Board, and Phi Mu Sorority at Knox College.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Milner, of the home; daughters, Anne and Jack Wilson, Valley Center, Ks., and Mary and Darrell Pankratz, Hutchinson; sons, Robert and Jennifer Milner, Henderson, Nev., and John Milner, Garland, Texas. She was a proud grandparent of Ben Wilson (Chelsea), Ross Wilson (Stephanie), Kyle Milner, Caitlin, Reed and McKenzie Pankratz, and Tyler, Austin and Madison Milner, as well as a proud great-grandparent of Teagan, Kade and London Wilson. Other survivors include: brother, James Waggener (Tita), Great Falls, Va.; and many other cherished extended family members.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday Feb. 5, 2010, at the Grace Episcopal Church, 20th and Main Street, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Michael P. Milliken officiating. Friends may sign the book today through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Her body will be cremated.
The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be held at a later date in Parker Cemetery, Arkansas City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Trinity Episcopal Church in Arkansas City, and Grace Episcopal Church in Hutchinson, both in care of the mortuary.
