Obituary

Opal Leah Kerwood, 87, died January 24, 2013, at her home in Moundridge, Kan. She was born January 17, 1926, in Miami, Oklahoma to James Albert and Willie May (Swepston) Tadlock. She graduated from Herington High School in 1944, attended LPN training and two years at JUCO. Opal was an LPN and a bus attendant. She was a member of The Corner Stone Baptist Church and played piano for many weddings, funerals and church services. On February 7, 1947, she married Harry Eugene Kerwood in Los Angeles, California. He died in 1975.

She is survived by: children, Glenda Kerwood of Sterling, Beverly Barkhurst (Bowman) and husband Mike of Derby, Richard Kerwood and wife Lori of Towanda, and Donna Hamm and husband Russell of Canton; brother-in-law, Harold Wall of Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved Bella is residing with Opal's grandson Jason Wheatley.

Opal was preceded in death by parents, husband, infant son, Kenneth Eugene Kerwood, infant daughter, Mary Jane Kerwood, son, Jerold T. Kerwood, and daughter, Judith N. Warner.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Larry Wedel. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Wildmead Cemetery in Nickerson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Corner Stone Baptist Mission Fund, in care of the mortuary 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
