Opal Stone, 96, of Hutchinson died Nov. 28, 2010, at Golden Plains Health Care Center in Hutchinson.
She was born Dec. 13, 1913, at Lamar, Mo., the daughter of Floyd B. and Pearl Hall Fulps.
She attended school in Lamar, Mo. She was a homemaker. She and her husband lived in Chanute from 1931-1955 where he farmed and later worked for Santa Fe Railroad. In 1955, they were transferred by the railroad to Burbank, Calif. She moved to Hutchinson in 1993. She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge in Chanute.
She married Joseph T. Stone on June 14, 1930, in Lamar, Mo. He died June 29, 1973. Survivors include: daughters, Mary Reed of Hutchinson, and Vivian Brown of Bull Head City, Ariz.; sisters, Ruby Carter of Pittsburg, Shirley Soloman of Chanute, and Louise Vaughn of Burbank, Calif.; four granddaughters, Donna Hidecker (Charles), Laurie Powell (John), Debra Marsh and Joanne Smith (Allen); eight great-grandchildren, Carrie, Brandi, Brian, Casey, Ashley, Tiani, Sara and Christopher; and nine great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Megan, Jessica, Taylor, T.J., Thomas, Cameron, Jaidyn and Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and two sons-in-law, Jim Brown and Donald Reed.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary, with Pastor Wayne Pittman presiding. Burial will be at a later date at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Calif.
A visitation for Mrs. Stone will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, sent in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
