Obituary

Orville J. "OJ" Martens, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was born in Buhler, July 2, 1926, the son of Nick and Elizabeth Froese Martens.

He was a graduate of Buhler High School, a lifetime member of Union Valley Bible Church, was an inductee into the Appaloosa Hall of Fame, was given a lifetime achievement award with the Appaloosa Horse Club. OJ was a horse trainer and Appaloosa horse judge.

On March 6, 1946, he married Wilma Jean Rowland in Hutchinson. She died Nov. 11, 2007.

He is survived by: a son, Scott and his wife Elena, Brownsville, Texas; a son-in-law, Joe Hartle; two grandsons, Ryan and Lori Rouse, and Tyler and Britney Hartle; four great-grandchildren, Braden and Brock Rouse, and Cass Joseph and Ella Halie Hartle; a niece, Kim Albright and family, Inman; and his best friend, Marty Anderson, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cass Hartle, and a sister, Mildred Dyson.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Union Valley Bible Church, 1916 East 30th Avenue, with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. Monday all at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Union Valley Bible Church, in care of the mortuary.
