Obituary

Orville A. "Bud" Preston, 81, died April 20, 2006, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born Jan. 13, 1925, in Dodge City, the son of Orville O. and Alice Barnes Preston. He graduated in 1943 from Haven High School and then graduated from Salt City Business College. A lifetime Hutchinson resident, he was a clerk for Sante Fe Railroad for 30 years.

He belonged to Westside Baptist Church, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Bob Campbell Post No. 1361, 32nd Degree Mason, Secretary for the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, the Brotherhood of the Railway, Airlines, Steamship Clerks, Freight Handlers and Station Employees, and the Railroad Retiree Breakfast Club. He also was an avid bingo player. He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in Korea.

Survivors include: three brothers, William, Hutchinson, David, Houston, and Richard, Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Waneeta Marshall, Colorado Springs, Colo., Hazel Fry and Joetta Isaacs, both of Hutchinson; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alta Mae Altizer and Mary Goddard.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Eldon Smith presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Penwell Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
