Orville Leonard Redd, 97, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born May 30, 1913, in Hutchinson, the son of Lewis and Rhoda Teel Redd.
Orville was a member of First Baptist Church, a 1931 graduate of Hutchinson High School, a veteran of World War II serving with the 130th field artillery, a life member of V.F.W., Bob Campbell Post #1361, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2550, Loyal Order of Moose #982 and retired in 1978 as Traffic Signal Technician for the City of Hutchinson.
On Oct. 1, 1955, he married Lela Ellen Emberton in Hutchinson. She died Nov. 21, 1981.
Other survivors include: a stepson, Donald Hamilton of Hutchinson; a stepdaughter, Judith Mettlen of Leavenworth; eight nephews and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Clifford, Alvin and Archie, and his three sisters, Ethel Redd, Cassie Davis and Ella Law.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Elliott Chapel with Tyler Vance and Bob Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, Hutchinson.
